Years in the making Polarfin® diblock technology leads the way
Polarfin® diblocks. How do they work?
After fifteen years of dedicated research, our breakthrough Polarfin® diblock technology is simple, yet effective.
Polarfin® is a diblock copolymer made of a polyolefin block joined to a polar polymer block by the “bridge molecule”.
The polyolefin block (or non-polar tail) is designed to be compatible with polyethylene, polypropylene or a polyethylene polypropylene copolymer.
The polar block (or polar head) is designed to be compatible with polar plastics such as PET, EVOH and PA, polar adhesives, coatings, metals or ceramics.
Polarfin® products can be used at low concentrations to compatibilise these currently incompatible plastics and materials, overcoming the challenges of mixing dissimilar materials.
Scalable processes beyond R&D
Academic research long recognised the benefits of diblock copolymers for bonding and compatibilising mixed plastics, but conventional production of diblocks was at low lab scales and resulted in low yields.
With our patented Polarfin® products, industrial scales at high yield is no problem, providing the solutions you need at high volumes.
We believe that our Polarfin® products will be the future of sustainable plastics use, enabling recycling of challenging mixed polyolefin waste plastics back into high value applications, and enabling wider use of recyclable polyolefins in applications currently limited by their low surface energy.
